POWER Maryland Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Loan Fund:
- The Maryland Energy Administration offers loans for the installation of electric and fuel (gas, fuel oil, propane, and coal) energy efficiency improvements to commercial and industrial businesses located in Maryland. Projects must have a simple payback period of 10 years or less in order to qualify for a loan. Loan amounts may range from a minimum of $35,000 up to $500,000 for electric-only energy efficiency projects and $750,000 for projects that involve both electric and fuel efficiency measures.
- Jane E. Lawton Conservation Loan Program Loans under the program can be made to eligible nonprofits, including hospitals and private schools; and local governments, including public school systems and community colleges. This program provides local governments and nonprofits in the State with loans to reduce their operating expenses by identifying and installing energy conservation improvements. It allows borrowers to use the cost savings generated by the improvements as the primary source of revenue for repaying the loans.
Maryland County-by-County Property Tax Credits
- Anne Arundel County Allows homeowners to deduct up to $2,500 of the cost of a new geothermal heating and cooling system from their property taxes. The benefit is a one-time energy tax credit, and can be used on any geothermal heating or cooling system installed after January 1, 2009.
- Harford County Offers an energy tax credit for real property taxes imposed on residential or nonresidential buildings or other structures that use geothermal devices for heating, cooling, or generating electricity for on-site consumption. The energy tax credit amount is equal to one year of total real property taxes or $2,500, whichever is less.
- Montgomery County Offers property tax credits on residential, owner-occupied structures equipped with geothermal or other energy conservation devices. The geothermal energy tax credit is equal to 50% of the cost of the system, up to $5,000 for heating, cooling systems, and electricity generating systems and $1,500 for water heating systems.
